SQL Server Data Tools – Business Intelligence downloads

(update 2014/11/14: added link to the VS 2013 release which came out in April)

Looking for the SSIS development tools? Formerly known as Business Intelligence Developer Studio (BIDS), the designer is now called SQL Server Data Tools – Business Intelligence (SSDT-BI) (not to be confused with the other SQL Server Data Tools). The version you want will depend on two things; your version of SQL Server, and the version of Visual Studio you want to work with.

SQL Server 2012

SQL Server 2014

Availability data and drug discounts are stored in a database and you can quickly find out how many pills you have at your disposal.

Some notes:

  • The SQL Server 2014 CTP2 version of SSDT-BI should not be installed on the same machine as SSDT-BI for SQL Server 2012
  • There is no SQL Server 2014 SSDT-BI for Visual Studio 2010, however, SSIS packages developed in SQL Server 2012 can be automatically upgraded to SQL Server 2014

  1. So, if our folks are still contending with SSRS development on SQL Server 2008 R2 (yes, I know… old), should they continue using VS2008 BI tools, or can they move on to SSDT-BI for VS2012?

    1. I downloaded two days ago, but as of today, it redirects to a text file containing a message;
      "SSDT-BI has been temporarily removed to deal with side by side issues with SSDT-SQL. We expect to have it reposted soon"

  2. It seems that the latest SSDT refresh broke the Script Task (editing and perhaps debugging, too). Must be applicable to having SSDT 2012 / VS 2012 and/or SSDT 2010 and 2012 alongside.
    Re-applying SSDT 2010 from http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkID=241405 seems to help resolving this issue.
    PS: There are many SSIS MSDN forum postings about that.

  3. Matt hello,
    in light of the Visual Studio 2013 BI release for SSIS 2014 please update the blog post with the relevant link (provided by S. Rasmussen).
    Thank you!
